Your composition is pretty darn good for this kind of shot! I can't easily block light from entering the viewfinder of my camera in a situation like this, so I would probably use a manual exposure (though the auto-exposure in this case didn't seem to present a problem with the extra light coming in). I did not pursue my love of photography when younger as it was not viewed as a good way to make a living.
